Death of Ira Fritz, Fellow of the American College of Nutrition

Ira H. Fritz, PhD, FACN, CNS of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Kettering Medical Center. He was 80 years old. Dr. Fritz was a Biochemistry Professor at Wright State University and Union Institute of Biochemistry until his retirement. He was a member of Beth Abraham Synagogue & Men's Club and of the Rod & Reel Fishing Club.  

Journal of the American College of Nutrition Announces 2017 Editorial Changes

December 21, 2016--William J. Kraemer, PhD, CSCS*D, FNSCA, FACSM, FISSN, FACN will take the lead as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American College of Nutrition (JACN), beginning in 2017. Taylor C. Wallace, PhD, CFS, FACN becomes Deputy Editor-in-Chief.  These changes follow the successful editorial leadership of John J. Cunningham, PhD, MACN.

Encinitas, CA--November 29, 2016--The American College of Nutrition honored non-profit, GrassrootsHealth, with their Humanitarian Award at their 57th annual conference held in San Diego November 9 - 11.

Death of Dr. Gerald Moss, Longtime ACN Member and Award-Winner

The American College of Nutrition announces the death of Gerald Moss, MD, PhD, FACN on September 22, 2016. He was eighty five years old. Dr. Moss was a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition since 1977 and a very supportive participant in the College’s rejuvenation in 2010. Over the years, he contributed in many capacities to ACN: he often served as a moderator or speaker at annual conferences and, importantly, as a council chair. His involvement in the annual conferences extended right up to last year when he gave a poster presentation at the 2015 ACN conference in Orlando, FL.

Western Diet Increases Alzheimer's Risk

August 25, 2016--Globally, about 42 million people now have dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease as the most common type of dementia. Rates of Alzheimer’s disease are rising worldwide. The most important risk factors seem to be linked to diet, especially the consumption of meat, sweets, and high-fat dairy products that characterize a Western Diet.

Concussions and Brain Injury -- Can Omega-3 Intake Aid in Brain Health Recovery?

August 24, 2016--The treatment of concussions and traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a clinical challenge. Clinical studies thus far have failed to identify an effective treatment strategy when a combination of targets controlling aspects of neuroprotection, neuroinflammation, and neuroregeneration is needed.  According to emerging science and clinical experience, aggressive intake of omega-3 fatty acids (n-3FA) seems to be beneficial to TBI, concussion, and post-concussion syndrome patients.
